What Do All of My Certifications Mean?

I wish I could tell you that my certifications, diplomas, and degrees meant I had all the answers when it comes to health and wellness. I wish those framed pieces of paper could show you all of the hours I spend reading and learning on my own time. I feel as though I eat, sleep, and breathe nutrition.


There are also a lot of people in the world who take a weekend course and feel they can teach others. The truth is, even if you had a six-year degree, you never stop learning and educating yourself. I always thought if I had a certain degree or certification I would be ready to educate others. Then I find myself standing there with the paper to show what I had accomplished and no idea what to do.


Do you know what taught me the most? Life, and walking the journey. The most valuable lesson was that not one single person will need the exact same plan. There can be many similarities and trials, but every piece of the puzzle will fit differently. If I educate you on anything, it is how to think for yourself and figure out what tools you need to succeed in your day to day life.


You have to ask yourself the hard questions and answer them honestly. For your eyes only answers. That way you do not answer to please others.


Start with some of these:


  1. What do I want?

  2. Why am I on the foodRXlife website and what can Lisa offer me that I can use?

  3. What can I change to make my life better?

  4. Am I healthy?

  5. Do I value myself and my needs?

  6. Am I ready?

  7. What am I doing that is stopping me?

There are so many variations to the answers. Some may overthink them, as I do. I go so deep my brain starts to spin. I had to figure out where I wanted to go to figure out where I needed to be. I had to know I was worth it. I also had to get rid of things that were stopping me. I used to make the excuse that I would help others when I lost all of my weight or when I got another certification. I had to stop with the excuses and just DO IT!


Since this is my first post I will tell you a little about myself.

  • I was an NSCA-CPT (National Strength & Conditioning Association - Certified Personal Trainer) for 6 years. I still love to lift heavy things, but mainly at home. And I only do it occasionally in a functional sort of way.

  • I received certifications in Life Coaching, Aromatherapy, Hypnotherapy, & Holistic Nutrition from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. I maintain my certification in hypnotherapy with the National Guild of Hypnotists.

  • I am currently enrolled in the Primal Health Coach Institue.

I looked into many different schools for nutrition and kept coming back to the Primal Health Coach Institute, mainly because this way of eating saved my life. I was very interested in the Functional Nutrition school but if I am being honest, I am highly sensitive to a lot of the foods that some people consider healthy. I have found a paleo/primal way of eating works best for me. I know because I have tried every single way of eating there is.
